Cryptids are creatures whose existence is claimed or proposed, but for which there is no scientific proof. Yet. The study of cryptids is cryptozoology. Reports of such creatures may come from local residents, visitors or from people deliberately seeking the creatures. Mythological creatures, for instance dragons or unicorns, are not normally considered in cryptozoology, although local myths may shed light on the origins of cryptid reports.

Scientific statusEdit

Cryptids, by definition, have no scientific status. They may exist, or they may not. Evidence so far gathered has failed to change the status of many cryptids, although the giant squid is a notable exception to this trend.
